Cases of new outbreak of Lassa
fever has been reported in Kogi State in the new outbreak.
Speaking with Opera News, the Head of Clinical Services, Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Lokoja, Dr. Bernard Ododo said the Medical Centre has established another cases of Lassa fever in Kogi State, advising the people of the state to be at alert as the state borders many other state.
Ododo described Lassa fever as a viral hemorrhagic disease contacted through food contaminated by rats, emphasizing on the need for the people to maintain standard hygiene and seek medical attention when anybody shows the symptoms of malaria, body weakness, sore throat, vomiting and bleeding.
In the same vein, a Consultant on Public Health to the Lokoja FMC, Mrs Abimbola Adesanya disclosed that seven suspected cases of Lassa fever have been discovered since December last year, explaining that one is currently on treatment in Irua, Edo State, calling on the federal government to assist the FMC with the necessary facilities to diagnose Lassa fever cases and save the cost and stress of transporting patients to Edo for diagnoses.
